Interactivity, Interface and the Internet

Spring semester / Guest Lecturer: Andy C. Deck

Social and antisocial ramifications of telepresence, distance learning, expert systems, mass databasing, instantaneity, virtuality, sensors, censorship, and technological change in general will be addressed. Our agenda, broadly put, is to provide a forum for the discussion and development of ideas concerning life in an increasingly computer-mediated, networked technocosm. Group interface design projects will be organized, with the aim of elucidating both technical and ideological limitations of exsting norms. Students will be expected to contribute their writing to hypertext "bulletin boards" as a way of learning more about network interactivity and as a way to establish a corpus of questions and a livelier interchange of views. Open to any interested student.
